LUKE 13:10-13
10On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” 13Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

This past Sunday I was reminded of this scripture when my father gave a sermon concerning the “woman with the infirmity”. I saw myself in this woman. I saw all of us in this woman. The chains of our past lives and the consequences of sin in the world have ravaged us all. Some of us are clinching our past so tightly that there is no room for our future. Some of us have forgotten, or act like we have forgotten, that God is able. We have been going through the motions and doing what “we” think we should. However it is not what we do or have done that will set us free. It is not our efforts or actions that set us free. Our current situation as individuals, families, and a nation are a direct reflection of our sole efforts in this life. We are crippled broken and bent over. We are in need for healing and restoration.
I ask; when will we open our ears to hear Jesus calling us forward? When will we realize that our actions and efforts are nothing when not powered by the Spirit of God? When will we allow the hands of Christ to touch us and straighten us up? Some of us have been down for so long that we doubt Christ’s ability to handle the shackles in our lives. But I dare you to trust him. I dare you to answer His call and in faith move towards his voice. Expect “immediate” help and restoration in all moments and infirmities in your life. Be encouraged and expect freedom in Christ!
I love you always and in all ways.
